Power of Songs - Tell Me Yours, I’ll Tell You Mine
Welcome and Happy Valentine’s Day!
Well, “I woke up this morning and I knew you were gone…I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain…but I always thought I’d see you again” (song by James Taylor) - this is what was running through my mind this morning. Does that happen to you? Many mornings I wake up with a song running through my mind, evoking memories, urging me to take some action or just setting a mood for me.
When that happens to me I always take a little time to reflect on what the song means to me right now - what the message is for me today - how I can use this “message” to gain some awareness or insight. It is my belief that songs are powerful communicators to and from our unconscious.
In a moment I will tell you what this song meant to me today. But first I want to invite you to participate in a song project of mine. I am gathering songs and stories that go along with them for a future book/CD on the power of song to affect our lives and communities.
If you would like to participate, please fill in the form on the right with your name and email and begin sharing your stories about the power of songs in your life. You will receive regular bonuses and offers and interesting information about songs and singing by being a part of my free email list. You can also enter comments by going to the “contact” tab.
So, back to the song. When I found this song in my mind I realized that I felt a bit sad and teary. Who is it that has left - that I won’t see again? And I realized that it was so many people. Some of these loved ones have passed on to the “other side camp”, but most are still here, just not too close by.
What I realized is that the well of love is very deep and I need to fill it daily with the love and gratitude I feel for everyone who has touched my life. If I spent all day, every day, singing out my love and appreciation for everyone I know, I would still be unable to let them know fully enough how important they are - how important you are.
My consolation in light of the fact that it is impossible to really let everyone I know how important they are to me and how much I long to share my love with them, is that there is no separation. The energy that flows through every cell of my being is connected to the energy, in fact is the same energy, as that flowing through all of life.
This knowledge doesn’t stop me from telling the people I love that I love them and appreciate them and look forward to the times we can be together. What it does do however, is remind me to fill myself with gratitude and love, as well as I can, all day - every day. In this way I can be that vibration of love and I know it is being sent out constantly from wherever I am.
What a lovely revelation to have on Valentine’s morning! I find that songs are the best way for me to get into the vibration of love. What song best fills you with love and gratitude? Share it here at Sing4All. I’ll share some of my favorites too in upcoming posts and emails to subscribers.
Long live the POWER OF SONG!
Blessings and Happy Trails,
Robin
